Good Wood Boat Company

Description

Good Wood Boat Company hand crafts wooden boats that gain the admiration of others, whether racing, or simply enjoying the water. The company specialises in new-build, restoration and repair of traditionally constructed wooden boats, both clinker and carvel, including:

National Redwing – designed by Uffa Fox in 1938
Tideway – designed L.H.Walker in 1952
Yachting World Dayboat – designed G O'Brien Kennedy in 1949
International 12 foot dinghy – designed by G. Cockshott in 1913
Lake District rowing boats of various sizes

The company, based in the English Lake District, is run by Stephen and Christine Beresford. Stephen worked as a chartered engineer for many years before deciding on a career change and trained to become a boat builder at the International Boatbuilding Training College at Lowestoft, graduating with distinction and establishing the business in March 2008.

The company uses responsibly managed and ethically sourced timber and has the infrastructure to certify and eco-label all its boats. Good Wood Boat is one of the first boatbuilding companies worldwide to gain Forest Stewardship Council certification.
