Blue Lias Marine

After a thoroughly enjoyable and challenging 22 years service in the Royal Marines. Rob decided to allow his practical and creative side to lead his next career by enrolling onto the “Long Course” at the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis, graduating in June 2012, achieving the “City & Guilds 2463 Level 3 Diploma in Marine Construction, Systems Engineering and Maintenance” (the technical certificate of an apprenticeship).

Whilst on the course a methodical attention to detail and keen eye, quickly developed into a passion for design and classical lines, inspiring Rob to start his own company “Blue Lias Marine”, with the aim of specialising in the restoration and repair of wooden boats and bench joinery.

Although relatively new to this career, dedication, a strong work ethic and a supportive family, will hopefully continue to breed success, and of course not forgetting the all important mantra of “every day is a school day!”

About the Workshop: initially based in a small well-equipped workshop in Dorset, Blue Lias Marine was focused on providing a “mobile, on site” service. 18 months ago the opportunity came to move to a much larger workshop on the same site, this move has enabled the acceptance of boats up to 25ft in the main shop and longer in a storage area, greatly enhancing the companies capability.
