National Directory of Skills & Services

Cunliffe, Hannah

Description

My childhood was spent on the Bristol Channel pilot cutter 'Hirta', built in 1911 and, after graduating from Exeter University in 1999, my love of traditional vessels inspired me to start work as a self-employed historical researcher. I have since completed a Masters in Maritime History at the University of Greenwich and have been involved with many interesting projects, including research into: exhibitions displayed in the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, individual vessel histories, boatyards, shipwrecks, maritime ancestors and much more. I was the researcher for the series 'Boat Yard', shown on the Discovery Channel in 2005, and am the resident maritime researcher for the BBC Radio 4 series 'Making History'. More recently, I have been employed as a consultant by National Historic Ships to produce this Directory and undertake an Infrastructure Audit of all the training and service needs for historic vessels in the UK. To learn more about the projects I have worked on, please visit my website.
