The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN), is recruiting for a Curator of HMS Trincomalee to join the Historic Ships team within the Heritage Directorate. 
This is an exciting new opportunity to help shape the NMRN’s conservation approach to HMS Trincomalee; the oldest floating warship from the age of sail.  Working as part of a team, this role will ensure the work to HMS Trincomalee sets new standards for ship conservation, interpretation and display.

Key Opportunities

  • To play an integral part in the conservation of HMS Trincomalee.
  • Become the leading expert on the history of HMS Trincomalee.
  • Share new knowledge of the ship with visitors, staff, volunteers, etc.
  • Ensure the conservation work on the ship protects what makes HMS Trincomalee significant.
  • Build a team of volunteers to support this exciting new adventure.
  • Develop work into talks for members of the public and to deliver at conferences and forums nationwide to raise our public and professional profile as a National Museum.


Applicants must have experience of ship/building/industrial collections conservation project(s) and experience of implementing management and conservation plans.
