Description

Working out of Portsmouth, this is an exciting opportunity to be a vital part of a team caring for the world’s largest fleet of historic ships, including HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, HMS Trincomalee and HMS Caroline. The Foreman Rigger will manage the in-house rigging team, coordinate contractors and implement the planned conservation and emergent works on the rig of NMRN’s historic ships to ensure they are maintained and operated to a high and safe standard.

Key Opportunities

• To work within a team caring for a historic fleet of national, and international, significance.

• To develop skills through the opportunity to work on a broad range of different vessels based in Portsmouth and at other NMRN sites.

• To lead the work to redesign and reinstate the rig of HMS Victory.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience

Knowledge of conservation and maintenance of masts, yards and rigging of historic ships. Qualified to IRATA Level 3, equivalent qualifications or experience and knowledge of LOLER and Health and Safety legislation.

Experience in ship refit/re-rig and conservation projects. Further experience of working at height, rope access and aloft surveys in compliance with SHE. Experience of leading and managing others including sub-contractors.
