I would very much like to command another small ship, and am prepared to do this either as a paid professional, or, in the event that the ship's owner cannot afford to pay me (e.g. for delivery of, or cruising on, a privately- owned vessel) for food and expenses. I am available at short notice; the only time I am not available is if I am already on board a vessel, or am already committed to crewing one .

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

- RYA Ocean Yachtmaster (motor), certificate number 5317, issued 25/ 08/ 2009.
- Commercially endorsed from 09/ 10/ 2013, but restricted to 20 miles from a safe haven for medical reasons ( type 1 diabetes).
- NVQ Level 2 Marine Vessel Support (equivalent to MCA Efficient Deck Hand Certificate), Issued by the National Sea Training Centre, Gravesend, in January 2005.
- Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats, certificate number PSC00859, Issued by the National Sea Training Centre, Gravesend, on 29/ 10/ 2004.
- RYA Day Skipper certificate (sail), issued by the |Crouch Sailing School on 21/ 11/ 1999.
- RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate, issued by the AHOY centre on 23/ 07/ 2005.

SEATIME: 25 months and 27,000 nautical miles. 29 days in command.

NAUTICAL CAREER:

- Joined the Sea Cadets, in September 1984, training on their brig, T.S. Royalist, and a number of yachts, including T.S. Martin, T.S. Morning Star of Revelation, T.S. Iolair & T.S. Sandpiper. Attained the rank of Cadet Petty Officer, in July 1987. On reaching the age of 18, in April 1988, I became an adult instructor, remaining with the Sea Cadets until 1996.
- In 1997, I became a freelance sailor, crewing a number of different vessels. These included the sail training ships, T.S. Royalist, T.S. Prince William, T.S. Stavros S. Niarchos and  S.V. Grand Turk, as a volunteer crew member. While on S.V. Grand Turk, I appeared as an extra in the T.V. film 'Longitude', starring Michael Gambon, which was filmed on board. I have crewed yachts, motor and sail, both on delivery and leisure passages, and I have also crewed vessels for charitable organisations, including the AHOY centre, the Maritime Volunteer Service and the Streetwise Trust.
- The highlight of my career, so far, was when I commanded M.V. Hambledon, a 150- ton fleet tender, running between Grimsby and Bull Sand Fort (a fort in the Humber Estuary), on behalf of the Streetwise Trust, although this ended in 2011, when the trust were no longer able to afford the charter fees. I have also commanded a 36' yacht, on several occasions, as well as a number of launches on the River Thames.
- I have done a small amount of paid work, at sea, but most has been unpaid due to the fact that, until very recently, the MCA would not issue me with a medical fitness certificate.
