VACANCY: Senior Shipkeeping Technician
19 August 2012
Senior Shipkeeping Technician – Cutty Sark
Royal Museums Greenwich www.rmg.co.uk
£23,000 - £30,000, London
You’re a qualified carpenter and joiner with substantial experience of working with a range of hand tools and materials. Just as important though, you have a real appreciation of history and conservation. You understand how everything has to be right – whether it’s the timber, nails or varnish. You can also work closely with colleagues in the conservation team: asking questions, asking for advice and building your expertise.
So put your talents to work on the historic vessel, Cutty Sark. Following a £50 million restoration, this national treasure is now open to the public within its spectacular new surroundings. Our goal is to create a unique and inspiring experience for every visitor – and we need you to help us achieve it.
Your role will include overseeing a small team of technicians and volunteers, so good communication skills are important, as well as a keen eye for detail and a practical, ‘hands-on’ approach. Above all else, you’re the kind of craftsperson who takes a genuine pride in your work.
