12 November 2013

Andrew Peters of Maritima Wood Carving has published a new book entitled Ship Decoration 1630-1780.

Having taken twelve years of research into the art of the ship's carver, the book is a detailed comprehensive study of the decorative work - figurehead, topside ornamentation and stern galley design - carried by the ships of the major maritime states of Europe in the zenith of the sailing ship era.

It covers both warships and the most prestigious merchant ships, the East Indiamen of the chartered companies and is the first major work on the subject for nearly a century.

Ship Decoration 1630-1780 is hardback, 356 pages with over 300 illustrations.  Copies can be obtained by emailing the author, through the publishers, Seaforth, or via Pen & Sword Books Ltd, 47 Church St, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S70 2AS. t: 01226 734 222 / www.pen-and-sword.co.uk

An internet search of the title on google will also highlight a number of other stockists. An additional pack of high quality illustrations by the author in printed or CD form will also be available from andy@maritimawoodcarving.co.uk to compliment the book.
