Scottish Fisheries Museum boatyard event, 9 & 25 September 2015

19 August 2015

Different generations of boat builders, but the same old boats.

The Scottish Fisheries Museum’s working boatyard will be opened to the public for an event which will take you to the 1900s to experience the work of wooden boat builders through materials, tools and techniques. You will find an exhibition of pictures of antique boatyards and descriptive texts about the life and the work in old workshops.

You will also become familiar with the processes used in the past to build the most popular fishing boats in Fife. You will also understand the role of current boat builders, who are called to restore those same boats which are now part of the maritime heritage. A guided tour of the Museum’s boatyard will show you how the workshop has changed in terms of techniques and staff’s knowledge to offer care to the old fishing boats.

The space in the Museum’s boatyard is narrow, advance booking is essential in order to organize the visits in small groups.
