Summer update from Newson Boatbuilders

9 August 2010

Newson Boatbuilders specialise in ex-military and double diagonal construction and here's an update of some of their current projects.

At present they have in their workshop undergoing hull repairs:

ST 377, Sea plan tender Zeta

Built by Brooke Marine of Lowestoft in 1941/2, this vessel is in for major hull and superstructure repair/rebuild, followed by all engine and electrics.

Humber, Fast Army Launch

Commissioned in 1946, Humber is now nearing completion of hull and steering gear installation, plus awaiting two new engines to be installed - both engines are in the workshop and of the original spec.  For full history, visit Newson's website: www.newson.co.uk

MTB 102

Built 1937, now back at yard on pontoon mooring having carried out the Dunkirk memorial crossing.  Other PR work trips to follow so for more information, visit: www.mtb102.com

RAF Pinnace Spitfire

Built in 1932, Spitfire is the last of the wooden Pinnace built now nearing completion of near total rebuild due to an accident with a lift out in Travel hoist.  Newson's are now ensuring the wheelhouse and electrics are completed.

Zeta, Humber and MTB 102 are registered on the National Register of Historic Vessels.  For more information on these, and others, please visit: www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk
