Southampton Maritime Festival 22/23 August 2014

Ocean Terminal, Dock gate 4

The Southampton Maritime Festival will once again be taking over the docks and water within Southampton’s Dock Gate 4 to bring a whole host of activities and attractions that hark back to Southampton’s past.

During this two-day event many historic ships and vessels will make their way into dock to join the festival including the National Historic Fleet’s HMS MedusaST Challenge, SS Shieldhall and many more. You can learn about each vessel’s role in the world wars, see heritage divers and experience Southampton’s wider wartime history.

Plus, in a bumper year of historical commemorations including 100 years since the start of the First World War, 70 years since the D-Day landings and 50 years celebrating Southampton’s city status, the event offers an unrivalled opportunity to step back in time into the region’s history.  Last year’s event attracted around 12,000 people and this year, organisers hope to beat this target.

As well as attractions on the water, you can explore a large number of displays and demonstrations over the course of two days.  The quayside will be packed with exhibits including historic cars, steam exhibits, heritage trams whilst Southampton’s Ocean Terminal will house many heritage and art exhibits, craft fairs and traders.

Heritages buses will also provide a shuttle service to the docks from the city centre throughout the event.
